Remember when we voted on whether or not the YMCA should move into the Moran Plant? The supporters tried to force a yes vote with threats that the YMCA would leave the city if we did not approve this very site (as if there are no other buildings in the city that could possible accommodate the Y).
Well, as is often the case, looks like they were wrong. Here’s an article in Seven Days that the YMCA is setting its sights on the Specialty Filaments building on Pine Street.

It isn’t a bad idea actually. There is quite a bit of space there, and if someone throws their back out, there is a chiropractor across the street…..

Wow, interesting…
To my knowledge, Specialty’s already under development by Lake Champlain Chocolates, right now they’re putting on a new roof & they’re planning to move in there by fall.

From the Seven Days story:
“Not that the Y would get all of it — Doug Nedde, partner and owner of Redstone, which acquired the property in March, confirms that the company is “negotiating a potential sale” of 61,000 square feet to the Y. Redstone recently sold 48,000 square feet on the southern end to Lake Champlain Chocolates.”

I don’t care where they are, as long as we’re not paying for it.
