"It says that Dr. King would not wait around for government to solve the problems facing urban America, but would rally church leaders to work toward social justice, as he did when he was alive."
- That makes him a Conservative?

yeah, what the hell. I thought it was just a provocative title and you were going to write a little about how justice knows no ideology and how maybe we need to look at more issues from a human/spritual perspective rather than through this simplistic left-right, conservative-liberal, bullshit view.

Instead we have an article that talks nicely about how MLKJR's power came from his faith and then suddenly makes the radical proclaimation that he was therefore a conservative. I guess because we all know that conservatives have a monopoly on spirituality.

awesome.

Obviously you didn't bother reading past the "despicable" title. The column is not about a political agenda. It says that Dr. King would not wait around for government to solve the problems facing urban America, but would rally church leaders to work toward social justice, as he did when he was alive.

It was a perspective worth reading...at least to people who know how to engage in dialogue beyond "shameless and vile" name-calling.

That guy is despicable for writing that and you for posting it...

Trying to attach the legacy of Dr. King to ANYONE's agenda besides his own is shameless and vile...

Dr. King was CLEAR that he did not see the struggle for racial justice in America as political in any sense. He overtly rejected political engagement in the movement because he saw it as counter-productive and divisive. To write a column on MLK day titled "MLK: Conservative or Liberal?" is beneath contempt.

I wouldn't care if it was dems or reps, conservatives or liberals... And in fact, earlier today I posted similar thoughts to a liberal blog that made the same insinuation... Trying to politicize what MLK stood for is just despicable...

Martin Luther King Jr. had some wise words to say about the state of the country back in the 60's and if you listen to his speeches today, they are very applicable. The country needs someone like him to talk some sense into people. Check out Martin Luther King Jr's Greatest Speeches at http://www.gotuit.com to enlighten yourself and others. Just search for MLK in the search bar.
