The Carnival of Principled Government is up at Principled Discovery.
The Burlington Free Press had an article today – front page – about homeschooling. It was a pretty good piece.
Oh and,
“Vermont’s home study regulations are lengthy…”
Told ya. It’s not just me kvetching.
Last, but not least, I recently found a blog called The Simple Dollar. It is a must read if you are trying to get your finances in order.
Speaking of which, I decided to see if I could keep our food budget to under $450/month. That was a random number, but it just so happens that $450 divided by 30 days in a month, divided by 5 people in my family equals $3/day (per person).
Only we are eating things like Mandarin Chicken with fresh broccoli over brown rice, or pasta and meat sauce, with tossed salad and fresh homemade bread, not crappy burgers from White Castle or grits and toast.
Man, what an idiot a poor steward of money that Congresswoman Lee is.
Seriously, though, Food Stamps are given out in a monthly allotment, not weekly. (Plus, I don’t think many families of one live on Food Stamps.)
Then, you need to buy things that are on sale and plan your meals from that. And make things yourself instead of buying pre-packaged foods.
It’s doable. There are lots of frugal, homeschooling mamas that make it on even less.
Update: I was just searching the internet about the food stamp challenge and I found this: Montpelier family will try to make it through the week on Food Stamp allotment of $105. It’s current, too.
I hate to be a …um… not nice woman, but something about people who are well off pretending to be poor to see what it is like makes me feel all queasy.
My favorite line:
A student in Martin’s class said, “What’s Food Stamps?”
