By now you all know the results of the Iowa Caucuses.
Democratic: Obama – 38%, Edwards – 30%, Clinton – 29%
Republican: Huckabee – 34%, Romney – 25%, Thompson – 13%
I saw them last night, but I wanted to wait until this morning to post about them. For one, I wanted to make sure that Edwards did beat Clinton, and I wanted to make sure that Thompson did beat McCain. Both of those contests were very close.
First, I have to say, how fun would it have been to be a fly on the wall when the crowds finally cleared around Sen. Hillary Clinton? She put a smile on, but she must have been fuming! Third place!
I’ll leave it up to the Dems to opine that one.
Fred Thompson came in third, which I predicted over at Five Before Chaos yesterday in the comments. That means that his campaigning there the last couple of weeks has paid off. The voters started responding to his message. Let’s hope that trend continues.
Sen. Thompson also said that he was not dropping out, as some had speculated. I think that, if he hangs in there, he just might surprise everyone. There is so much variability between the states. For example, Gov. Huckabee, last night’s winner in Iowa, is not even in the top three in New Hampshire, the next primary state.
It ain’t over ’til it’s over.
That said, if the presidential race is between last night’s two winners, Sen. Barack Obama and Gov. Mike Huckabee, the election will be excruciatingly painful to watch.
It will be a competition between who is going to spend more of other people’s money to help you the most, who knows less about foreign policy, and who will raise taxes the most. Yea! (More commonly spelled “yay” by bloggers who do not know how to spell – one of my blogging pet peeves.)
Okay, that is enough of that daydream/nightmare. As I said, it’s not over yet. On to New Hampshire!
Huckabee post up later. (You all know how I heart Huckabee!)
