UPDATED:

Town Meeting Day is coming up here in Vermont and that means City Council Elections in Burlington.

The Democratic Party will caucus to nominate candidates on January 10, 2008.

The meetings and times are as follows:
Wards 1, 2 & 3 Barnes School 6:00 p.m.
Wards 5 & 6 Greek Orthodox Church 6:30 p.m.
Wards 4 & 7 Heineberg Center 7:00 p.m

Word has it that the Republican Party will caucus on January 15, time and location TBA.

And I don’t know when the Progressive Party caucus is.

The Progressive Party caucus will be at H O Wheeler school, Jan 17 2008, 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.

People who want to run as an independent can visit the City Clerk’s Office for the paperwork and petitions. But, go as soon as you can because you do need to go door-to-door for the signatures.

The first time I ran, I waited until the day before the petitions were due and we had a sudden snow storm! It only took one evening to get it done, but it was a long, cold one.

  1. How does the petition signing thing work? I heard that in VT you can only sign petitions once a year for candidates to get on the ballot…or is that just for statewide office? Whatever I heard, it sounded weird.

  2. A candidate needs a certain number of signatures of registered voters to appear on the ballot. The number varies depending on the office. Signing does not commit you to that candidate. And you can sign as many as you want, I believe. Perhaps the person who told you that was trying to prevent you from signing his or her opponent’s petition.

  3. Hmmmm…political dirty tricks in VT…thanx for the info Charity.
