I think we do need a new party, and I think one is on the way, but it will take some time. There is definitely a ground swell of support for a back-to-the-Constitution-style government. It unites people on the left and right, who don't want to use federal government power and money to force their agendas on others. Until then, we are stuck with the big government left and the big government right. Frank, I agree that Republicans have lost their way. I think we do need a new party, and I think one is on the way, but it will take some time.

There is definitely a ground swell of support for a back-to-the-Constitution-style government. It unites people on the left and right, who don’t want to use federal government power and money to force their agendas on others.

Until then, we are stuck with the big government left and the big government right.

I would have thought that Thompson's position is most in line with what Republicans say they stand for; what I can get behind. I would not rack this up as a total repudiation of the Regan "coalition" just yet (although it is in serious trouble for a lot of reasons)...rather this seems to be a repudiation of the Thompson/Gingrich strategy of waiting until very late to get into the race. By doing this, they thought that they could save a lil money (read that...try and squeek by some FEC laws) and race in to save the day at the last minute. Also, you really do have to "look" like you want to be President, which I guess Fred bungled at a few venues when he was asked about it. This campaign cycle is way, way too long though IMO.
