The Free Press had a story today about a UVM Physics professor named Dennis Clougherty which was a terrific article if you are interested in that sort of stuff.

I was kind of surprised that they had such a science-y article on the front page. I am curious what prompted it.

Anyway, I thought it was worth mentioning.

I had Dennis Clougherty for one of my introductory physics classes. It was shortly after he started teaching at UVM and he was a very difficult teacher. One of my fellow students described it well when he said the problem was that the man is a genius and he doesn’t know how to talk down to the level of freshman and sophomore physics and engineering students.

At least, he didn’t then. I am sure after 15 years he is much better at it.

That doesn’t change the fact that the man is a genius. Or at least extremely bright. Check out his bio.

And the article.  Fascinating stuff.
