Is it just me or does Barack Obama seem to get a free pass from the media on everything he says?

I mean, the man says a lot of things that are just begging to be countered.

Take this comment, from a speech Obama gave in Mississippi, for example,

“Everybody always asks ‘well, how come you haven’t already wrapped this up? Well, it’s because there are a lot of very powerful people who are doing very well under the existing system,” he said. “So they resist. They’ve got power and they’ve got money. But what we’ve got are the American people.”

Aren’t Obama and Clinton nearly neck and neck? So, is Obama saying that nearly half of all Democratic Party voters are “powerful people” with money?

As it turns out, Sen. Obama and his wife seem to be doing quite well under the existing system, too.

In 2006, the Chicago Tribune reported that Mrs. Obama’s compensation at the University of Chicago Hospital, where she is a vice president for community affairs, jumped from $121,910 in 2004, just before her husband was elected to the Senate, to $316,962 in 2005, just after he took office.

Just a warning, that link will make you gag. Especially the part where Michelle Obama tells a room full of low-income women that she spends $10,000/year on extra curricular activities for their two daughters, then says, “don’t cry for me”.

Don’t worry, we won’t.

Obama also said, (from the first link)

“When in the midst of a campaign you decide to throw the kitchen sink at your opponent because you’re behind,” he said, “and your campaign starts leaking photographs of me when I’m traveling overseas wearing the native clothes of those folks to make people afraid, and then you run an ad talking about who’s going to answer the phone at three in the morning, an ad straight out of the Republican playbook, that’s not real change.”

Calling dirty tactics “Republican” is not real change either.

So much for bringing about change in Washington. It sounds like the same old partisan attacks that have existed since…well, since our nation began.

I guess the more things change, the more they really do stay the same.

One Response to “The More Things Change…”

  1. Yea, Mrs. Obama has rubbed me the wrong way for a while now. What I don’t get at all is why Obama is getting away with this “ad straight out of the Republican playbook” thing. It’s straight out of the *Mondale* playbook unfortunately, even the Daily Show got that one right:

Karl Rove was running the 1984 Phil Gramm Senatorial campaign at the time BTW…sheesh… I agree that Clinton is desperate at this point though, but Obama hasn’t even seen yet how nasty the GOP attack campaign can get. I’ll be waiting for the nuclear explosion ad next.
