I have been watching the DNC shindig on PBS for the past hour and I thought, what the hey, let’s live blog it!

The Barackstar himself is coming on stage soon. Right now, we are watching an intro video.

Get ready for some serious hope-changerrificness!

10:08 PM Trying to stay awake for this video.

10:11 PM A sea of “change” placards, as Obama enters – finally that video is over.

10:17 PM Okay, that was cute when his daughters waved at him.

10:19 PM Our government was not created to help you pay your bills. Geeze. I can’t stand this stuff.

10:23 PM The fundamentals of our economy are strong. We are a nation of whiners. (Noting the exceptions doesn’t change that.)

10:29 PM Ooh, ooh! I just saw the Vermont delegation sign. (Can you tell I am getting bored?)

10:30 PM What promise? I was just wondering that same thing!! How does he plan to make these things happen? He is promising that people will be decent and employers will be good to workers. Those are character issues. How does a president make people have good character? Any way I can think of is pretty darn scary.

Good, he’s going to spell it out. Tax code that rewards people who crate good jobs in America. (Wait, isn’t that what Democrats in Vermont are always criticizing?) End dependence on Middle Eastern oil in 10 years. I love how he just pointed out how long McCain has been in the Senate. Is he not aware that Biden has been in the Senate even longer than McCain?

Did he just say nuclear? He does realize that liberals hate nuclear, right?

10:35 PM How is he going to make sure that jobs cannot be outsourced?

10:36 PM Expand early education, hire an army of new teachers, pay them more. Where is this bottomless money pit he is going to tap?

10:39 PM Of course, he will close corporate loop holes and go through the budget line by line to find that missing money that no previous president could ever find! Brilliant. Why hasn’t anyone ever thought of that?

10:42 PM Government can’t replace parents, yet school needs to start younger. Whatever. I can’t listen to this swill. Wake me when he says something interesting. I am going to go hang out with my husband.

Sorry, my first live blogging experience did not work out so well. Maybe I will have better luck live blogging the RNC convention.

If you are just dying to read a right-wing woman live blog this speech, head on over to Right Wing News and read Melissa Clouthier’s post.

Good night and God bless!

  1. You’re live-blogging wasn’t the most accurate but it was definitely amusing. Just in case you don’t feel like live-blogging the RNC, CNN now has embedabble videos. They will have up to date coverage of the RNC as well.

    http://www.cnn.com/video/

The video quality is great. On the CNN site, there is pre-roll advertising, but once you embed the video on your site, the pre-roll advertising is removed. (at least for now, CNN has launched their video embed feature without advertising)

  2. “The fundamentals of our economy are strong.”

No, they really, really aren’t…come on now…

“Is he not aware that Biden has been in the Senate even longer than McCain?

Did he just say nuclear? He does realize that liberals hate nuclear, right?”

Good catch on the Biden thing…I hate Biden myself. The nuclear thing is all about him being bipartisan…I know it’s been a long time since anyone’s really done that though…you might have forgotten what that was like by now… ;)

“How is he going to make sure that jobs cannot be outsourced?”

Was this the new energy jobs thing (solar, wind, etc.)? If so, I’m pretty sure that there’s almost no way for those jobs not to be here in the USA.

“Where is this bottomless money pit he is going to tap?”

It’s called having the rich pay their fair share, which you guys aren’t for at all.

  3. “It’s called having the rich pay their fair share, which you guys aren’t for at all.”

Their fair share? The top 1% already pays 40% of the Federal taxes! The bottom 50% only pays 3%! I would say that the income tax system is already pretty progressive.

What constitutes a “fair share”? To make the top 1% pay 99%?

BTW, I rescued an old comment of yours from the spam filter. I have it set to call posts with 2 links spam. I am going to change that to 3, I think.

  4. I think Bill said it best in another thread:
“A 10% tax rate hurts a lot more if you make $20,000 than if you make $200,000 — so those aren’t ‘consistent’ rates despite the fact that they are the same percentage of income.”

The rich have a HUGE amount of disposable income, and while I’m not in favor of govt. taking all of it away from them…they need to be soaked a whole lot worse than the rest of us do. They can afford it better.

Yea, I saw that “rescue”…thanks…I turned that post into a bigger post on another website. It was met with mostly silence…lol…
