I honestly do not know where to start with this post.
Okay, first, I think this was a great move by McCain. You can see in my Twitter feed (in the right-most side-bar) that was my initial reaction. It has only been confirmed by the complete and utter unhinging of the left-wing blogosphere.
If she isn’t a threat, then why are they being so downright nasty, I ask.
More on that in a minute.
The reason I thought this was a great pick by McCain is two-fold. For one, this is an historic election, as we are constantly being reminded and, quite frankly, he needed people to be able to cast a vote for him and still be a part of making history. (Check.)
Second, the base does not like McCain, but they love Sarah Palin. The conservative bloggers were ecstatic over this choice. People who swore they would not vote for McCain actually donated money. (McCain took in $7 million in fundrasing money after the announcement.)
Then there was the added bonus of watching the left flounder after McCain managed to take the wind out of Obama’s convention speech sails. But that was just gravy.
The left just did not know how to react to the Palin pick, so in their panic, they made some serious mistakes.
First, they played up her inexperience, forgetting that the whole Obama campaign depends on convincing the American public that one does not need experience to become president.
Take this statement, made on the DailyKos front page,
…she herself should understand that she is an up-and-comer, a future draft choice, not a current first line player. That has nothing to do with her, and everything to do with her resume. No one can ‘make up for that’ by being charming…
Ha! Let’s just change that up a bit…
…he himself should understand that he is an up-and-comer, a future draft choice, not a current first line player. That has nothing to do with him, and everything to do with his resume. No one can ‘make up for that’ by being charming…
and you get a statement about Obama!
I don’t think the inexperience thing hurts McCain’s VP as much as it hurts Obama. He needs to be ready on day one. Governor Palin will have some time to train for the position.
Oh, that reminds me, how funny I find it that liberals, especially the Vermont liberals, think Alaska is too small of a state to count as executive experience, given that they all loved that former governor from Vermont when he ran.
But that is not the worst of the left’s attacks. McCain’s decision to choose someone unknown and unexpected as his running mate has left them reeling for an angle of attack. In their haste to cast her in a negative light before the public gets a change to know her, they have revealed their own vile nature.
According to the left, Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska’s, only value is that she is an attractive woman. A MILF. Not a serious choice for VP. Someone to be degraded** in a way that only those pro-woman Democratic men can. Because, obviously, McCain only chose her so he could look at her ass.
The implication that Gov. Palin has no other value is just completely demeaning and sexist and an insult to women everywhere. Yet this is the party that cares about women. Yeah, right.
Then there is the tabloid trash – She gave her baby Down’s Syndrome. She didn’t really have a baby; it’s her daughter’s. She was already pregnant when she married her husband, twenty years ago. Her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant and – get this – will marry the father.
Attention liberal bloggers: if I want low-class drama, I will watch Jerry Springer. Let’s talk politics.
I am looking forward to watching the newly energized McCain campaign and where they will take the debate. It remains to be seen if the left can regain their sense and try to keep it above board.
One can only hope.
