Last night was a real reality check. Despite all of my excitement over the past week, I am still not a McCain fan. I ended up turning off the computer about 10 or 15 minutes into the speech. (I was watching streaming video.) In between telling my husband to stop saying, “he’s so old,” every two minutes, I was reminded why I didn’t support McCain in the primary. He’s just not that conservative. Plus, he’s boring.

This is why the right is going so nuts over Sarah Palin – she will make voting for McCain palatable.

Before Gov. Palin, we were voting against Sen. Obama. No one likes to vote against something; we want to vote for something.

Now we are. We are voting for someone who is a conservative, with conservative policy positions and conservative values. We are voting for someone we can relate to, someone who is not another elite politician. We are voting for the first female vice president. We are voting for something.

Don’t get me wrong. When I look just at the positions of Barack Obama and John McCain, there is no doubt who better represents me – John McCain, hands down. But that’s mostly because Barack Obama is so far away from representing me. I would vote for Hillary Clinton before I would vote for Barack Obama.

Sarah Palin adds excitement to the ticket and you can see that excitement everywhere you look.

I didn’t find much excitement watching John McCain last night. And that’s a fact I almost forgot.

  1. How in the world have I missed your blog? This is a great site (adds to my RSS reader).

I confess I actually fell asleep at the end of McCain’s speech but not due to content. It was because I stayed up so late the previous two nights watching the other speeches. I was exhausted. Ha!

    Exactly!

  2. My blog is easy to miss because I don’t comment very often on other blogs. I need to work on that. I’ve been reading your blog for the longest time and I never leave comments.

Yeah, I was up past 11 watching Sarah Palin the night before, so I was pretty tired. Otherwise, I probably would have stayed up for McCain.
