With all this talk (and talk, and talk…) about President Obama and the coverage given to President Bush’s legacy, the man who seems to have been overlooked in all the hoopla is Vice President Dick Cheney.  Well, except that he was in a wheelchair today.

The only things I was able to find about him were this short, but heartfelt bit by Shannen Coffin over at NRO, On Cheney, and a piece by one of the bloggers from Gay Patriot, B. Daniel Blatt, published at Pajamas Media, Dick Cheney: the most pro-gay Vice President in history.

Both are worthwhile reads, but that was all I could find, except the requisite we’re glad Darth Cheney is gone bit from the liberal blogs.

And what’s with Darth Cheney?  I mean, it makes no sense.  Have you seen Star Wars?  Darth Vader is the underling of the Evil Emperor.  Who is the Emperor, if Cheney is Vader?  I thought Cheney was the one pulling the strings, according to liberal lore.  Wouldn’t that make him the Emperor?  And Bush Vader?  (No, Bush is too goofy to be Darth Vader.  That I get.)  And you do realize that in the end, Darth Vader becomes good and destroys the Emperor, right?  Did you people really think this reference though?  (Wait, emotion-driven rage and thinking don’t exactly go together.  Never mind.)

I, for one, love Dick Cheney.  I always wished, these past 8 years, that he was the president.

There, I said it.  Go ahead and delete me from your blogrolls.  I love Dick Cheney.

My favorite thing about Cheney is that, when in the House of Representatives, he voted against the creation of the U.S. Department of Education.

If there is a Federal bureaucracy I love to hate, it is the Department of Education.

He was concerned with the expansion of the federal government and erosion of states’ rights, as well as the cost.

That’s awesome.

Too bad Bush didn’t share that view.  He expanded the scope of the Department of Education and doubled the cost.  But, this post is not about him.

Vice President Cheney was the real conservative in the Bush/Cheney pair, yet he had the decorum to respect the President’s decisions, even when he disagreed.  Now, that’s class.

Cheney took a lot of flack over the past 8 years, much of it unjust, so I just want to take this opportunity to say that I, for one, will miss him.

  1. Really? The most pro-gay vice president ever? This is based on the fact that his public statements went beyond the president’s policies?…Compelling argument! What a fighter!

Your link to Pajamas Media (conservative activists) website further discredits your argument. The author, B. Danial Blatt, wrote such lovable little ditties as:

Many Gays Have No Problem with Palin

    and my favorite

Golden State Gay Marriage Ban Struck Down

Where he then argues that, “Not all gay people are celebrating today’s ruling by the California Supreme Court”…LAME

  2. Thanks for your comment, but I was not arguing that he was the most pro-gay VP.

So, out of curiosity, who was the most pro-gay VP?

  3. Good read and I agree. As far as him being pro-gay. He was tolerant and accepting. What exactly is there more to do?

  4. Al Gore was openly for gay marriage.

  5. Cheney advocated torture Charity. Torture. He should go to prison.

  6. If Cheney deserves to go to prison, I am sure our new president will take care of it.

  7. Clever, dismissive answer, but that isn’t a denial that Cheney advocated torture. You know, torture. It’s what the Romans did to Jesus. You love the man who advocates for this?
