Today, I contacted Channel 17, the Greater Burlington Area government access TV channel, and let the program manager know that I will no longer be able to do the She’s Right monthly show.

It was a hard decision to make, but the right one nonetheless.

It was a great two-and-a-half years, but all good things must come to an end.

Thank you, all who watched.

On the show I mentioned that the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf was in urgent need of turkeys. I was supposed to post the contact information for donations. I hope anyone who needed it was able to find it, but there is still time to donate, so here it is.

I would like to encourage all of my Vermont readers to take a look at Tom’s site. Especially the page entitled, “Vermont’s Economic & Demographic Crisis: Its Symptoms.” It really puts in perspective the financial obligations that Vermont is facing in the coming years and the urgent need to do something to grow the Vermont economy in order to have the revenue to meet these obligations.

As Tom said on the show tonight, this is not – or should not be – a partisan issue. This is something that is going to hit all Vermonters hard if we do not plan for it.

Speaking of planning, another thing that Tom mentioned was that he is having a planning/brainstorming meeting at his home this Sunday at 4:00 PM. His address and phone number are on this page of his website if you want more information.

I talk about inalienable (or unalienable, if you prefer) rights, as expressed in the Declaration of Independence and the philosophy of John Locke, compared to our current view of rights, or lack thereof, and the way that our rights have been eroded, listing several examples in different areas.

I conclude by appealing to people to stand up for everyone’s rights, not only the rights that pertain to them.

I also get into an impassioned discussion with a caller in the last minute (and in several minutes into off-air time, which is included in the podcast), who insists that government has the “right” to make sure that homeschoolers are doing a good job of educating their children.

Spoiler: Governments do not have rights.

He doesn’t seem to take issue with my assertion that the IRS does not have a “right” to access our financial records for a audit, though. That is exactly what I mean when I say that we need to protect even the rights that do not pertain to us.
